Artsy Discoveries: Jessica Sprague - Digi In Deeper

Hey Creatifs!

Still working on Digi In Deeper @ Jessica Sprague.  Look at these two new layouts designed for this digital scrapbooking class.  The lessons are packed with advanced techniques & trendy layout styles.

I've been a bit scarce on the Papier Creatif Weekly Color Challenges & will be posting a few soon.  I'm looking for a Works*It Creatif Team.  If you have interest in helping promote my website, kits & albums, let me know.  The more the merrier! {Usually........... right!? LOL!}

*LITTLE DUDE* The wonderfully magical thing about scrapbooking is the emotional connection to imagery {photography} combined with art {scrapbooking & journaling}.  The layout of my son & daughter with their baby cousin is a true example.  This was the 1st time Mason had ever held a baby while Jessica works at a daycare as lead teacher & is watching over them!  Once again, I got a little lucky on the shot, primarily because I take many frames of photos AND the sun was begining to set.  Beautiful day; Beautiful photo.

*I SEE YOU ALL* Freestyle has become so hot in recent years and is just getting hotter!  That hand drawn look with heavy graphical elements in a wayyyy messy format is *the thing*.  Primarily because of the evolution of Pen & Tablets which has sparked a wave of hand drawn elements & alphabets.  You can create your own or do a search on freebies.  It truly depends on how much time you have to devote to your layouts and scrapbooking in general.  There are so many amazing products available now that developing your own isn't a have to but can certainly be fun & fulfilling on those rainy days.

I use an Intuos 4 - Medium Pen & Tablet.  It's big enough but not too large.  With a larger pad, you may have keyboard placement issues.  The smaller ones, I really wouldn't recommend.  There's much more room for drawing & it's easier to draw to scale.  The pros use huge ones that look like architectural drawing boards! For my digital scrapbooking use, the medium one works very well.

The Free Style layout of my kids with their cousins during Christmas was fun & perfect for the theme of this Jessica Sprague template.  While taking family photos, they started hamming it up and Wow! I AM SO GLAD THAT I MADE EVERYONE STICK WITH A COLOR SCHEME FOR CLOTHING! {hehehe} AND ... look at that background of the outdoor fireplace.  Always look for texture in your photography.  For a novice like me, it adds lotsa richness, texture & interest.  THINK *PRETTY*!  THINK *BIG* .... BIG, PRETTY backdrops for family photos add a level of sophistication to your photography.  And... BE BOSSY!  That's right!  If you want your family photo captured in a particular place, STICK TO YOUR GUNS!  They will thank you for it later.  Trust me on that, my family is stubborn!

Photoshop Tutorial: Brush Tool Opacity "a way of expressing without words"

{layout} *a way of expressing ... Without Words*

{credits}

  • Kit: OScraps, Embrace, Fei-fei Stuff
  • Template & Brushes: Jessica Sprague

{tips}

This is a striking layout of my daughter, Jessica, playing cello.

Note the subtle word play of "Without Words" muted gently below "a way of expressing".  I love how the angel wings float behind her while she's looking down.  When using the Brush Tool in Photoshop, reduce the Opacity to 75% or as desired for a faded out look.

Creatif Photographie: Bokeh Photography

The most beautiful of all flowers

FRENCH BOKEH PHOTOGRAPHY  {awesome gallery link.}

Bonjour Creatifs!

J'dore {I adore} Bokeh! Yes, love the city of Paris, romance & that eccentric photographic blur which truly makes my heArt sing! Bokeh is a bucket list technique that I'd really like to get into.

These gifted photographers have lots more work showcased so go to my flickr site for an up close, detailed look!

Some Super Quick Videos!

DEPTH OF FIELD QUICK TUTORIAL - After reviewing several Bokeh tutorials on You Tube, this one explains how to attain a blurred background quickly & clearly.

BOKEH SLIDESHOW - An enjoyable short video with a sampling of very pretty Bokeh photographs!

~

Per Wikipedia ".... The term comes from the Japanese word boke (暈け or ボケ), which means "blur" or "haze", or boke-aji (ボケ味), the "blur quality". The Japanese term boke is also used in the sense of a mental haze or senility.

Bokeh is often most visible around small background highlights, such as specular reflections and light sources, which is why it is often associated with such areas. However, bokeh is not limited to highlights; blur occurs in all out-of-focus regions of the image.

In photography, bokeh (pronounced /bɒkɛ/) is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light." Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting—"good" and "bad" bokeh, respectively. Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions ...."

A little luck capturing a Bokeh style photo of my son playing golf.  This is the cover of the SPORT Club Golf* ALBUM.

Cool Product: Sporty Tote for Camera Gear and Your Stuff

{1st a Message from a Proud Mom ~ My Son @ Kingwood Country Club Lake Course}

Check out what I found at the Pro Shop!  CLICK BELOW! It's much better lookin' than the photo.

"Sturdy and spacious, the TaylorMade Ladies Tote goes to and from the golf course or clubhouse with understated elegance."

Bottomline -- I couldn't resist this nifty, classic tote at Kingwood's pro shop, while traveling to the Houston area for a TJGT golf tourny.  My son battled it out for the prestigious title, Player of the Year & while he didn't win, he still ranks No. 2 Golfer for TJGT.  A terrific accomplishment in itself!

So, many times I can take up to 300+ photos per day. I pack my Canon 60D, 2-3 lenses, purse, drinks, snacks & essentials {like lipstick & credit cards}.  All the bags required can make me feel like I need a Mule just to load the gear on!  And for what?!  A golf expedition!?  Oh well, I love animals anyway ...

You know what it's like ...  You whip a heavy purse across your shoulder, the camera case follows, add additional bags of groceries while trying to ensure that you remembered to put everything you need into either your purse OR camera bag OR grocery bag{s} - like sunglasses, sun screen, binoculars, wallet, keys, snacks, the kitchen sink - it just gets too heavy & out of control!  Seriously????  This is just TOO MUCH FOR ME TO THINK ABOUT!

DETERMINED to narrow items down that were ESSENTIALS-ONLY-STATUS into a meager camera bag, I carefully selected & neatly packed my stuff into it's tiny front pocket. I had to cram down the camera which STILL plunged above the edges like a muffin top! The bag wouldn't zip but I was able to get it to clip!  Oh yes! No purse to lug along this time!  Just a camera bag & grocery bag of protein shakes, Gatorade, Power Bars, and Cokes {for me, of course} ... But where to put my jackets? And if you're like me, I always feel the need to carry a purse!  A coordinating one at that!

I walked into the Pro Shop - niiice - whoever is in charge of merchandising there - kudos!  And if it's a guy, double-kudos!  Coz the jewelry, sport clothing & gear were wicked!  My eyes were all over the place!  Until ...............

:::::::::::::::::: romantic music begins ::::::::::::::::::::

I saw ................................................. "THE BAG".

An ahhhh-haaa Moment!

My eye's widened.  My heart raced.  The onset pang of a guilty purchase pursuing.  I resisted, remorsefully, & walked out.  It called for me, so I returned & rang 'er up!

White, quilted with double-stitching, faux leather straps accented with pewter buttons! Classy - like a quilted Callaway golf bag I fell in love with a few years ago.  I always kicked myself for not buying it - I'm CERTAIN I would be playing golf now, if I had, along with a shining set of Calloway clubs! ;)

This bag is beyond just for golfers ...  I prefer that it doesn't look like a camera bag.  That it's simple, streamlined & classic.  It's not too big; yet bigger than a typical camera case & a nice size.  My camera case actually can fit inside, along with some extra clothing & drinks.  I can easily nix the camera case & simply load my gear inside to lighten things up.  And it fits *perfectly* into the back of a golf cart {if that's important to you}!

Although the photo is of the exterior, there are lots of extras built-in:
  • {2} Netted Side Pockets - one on each side for drinks
  • {1) Triple Pen/Pencil or Tee Holder
  • {1} Key Clasp ... awesome quality I might add
  • {2} Shallow Pockets Perfect for Cell Phones and Devices {no more digging around!}
  • {1} Larger Pocket behind the 2 above that Clasps Shut
  • {1} Front Exterior Pocket Sturdy & Sylish
  • {1} Bottom Reinforcement

I have been looking for something sporty that goes with everything I wear ... and well, this rings "Coco Channel Golf Mom" or "Photographer-Fashionista"!
